Baby J : 1st Birthday (Behind the Scene 1)

My thinking hat was on 2 months prior Baby J's first birthday celebration. I wanted it to be a special celebration. My first celebration for my little precious. A family size event. He was too young to understand and to enjoy his first birthday so why not keep it simple and special? Well, his daddy and grandma wanted a slightly bigger celebration...

The theme and concept did not change but instead of a small celebration, I blew it to a bigger scale. The entire preparation was a real booster to myself. I was excited, happy and fueled up in every single process.

We catered homecook buffet for 100 pax. Invited relatives from both daddy's & mummy's side of the family and a few close friends.

I selected the birthday theme based on his current favourite book "The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle". My inspiration came from Pinterest and Etsy. If you need ideas, just search your subject there. Wonderful!

Invitation card DIY by mummy
Must give some credit to daddy for teaching mummy how to
use "Paint" for editing.. :p

Created a progress chart for Baby J from till 1 year old.
All these pictures are home printed on glossy paper using a CISS printer.

If you read The Hungry Caterpillar, it was about a hungry caterpillar and it's food, his cycle turning into a butterfly. My boy loves food. Hardly rejects any so far. All the food listed in this book perfect to be served on the dessert table. Here come little creations of ours. I just plucked the ideas from my 2 best friends above and modified to our needs.

Relabeled Kit Kat Chocolate with our DIY wrapper

M&M chocolate. The idea was to provide a goody bag where kids
can fill up the bag with anything they love from the dessert table.
Did you notice a pot of gold melt in the mouth chocolate behind
the M&Ms?  All these to keep guess happy!

Lollipop - Self designed and printed these labels on glossy
sticker paper. And have them displayed on top of a fake grass
with some decoration.

Water labels were printed on glossy paper and
daddy helped to relabeled them!

There was a plate of baby cheese, combination of BabyMel Cheese,
Laughing Cow cube cheese and Bega stick cheese. I could not find that picture!

Red eggs were not part of the theme but as a Chinese,
this is a must have.Grant aunt Veron helped to dye the red eggs
and they are beautifully evenly Red.  We used kampung chicken eggs.

NOW, coming to the Monday to Friday caterpillar's food

On Monday, he ate through one apple but he was still hungry
On Tuesday, he ate through 2 pears but he was still hungry
Managed to find smaller size green pear but they
were not as delicious as they were seen

On Wednesday, he ate through 3 plums but he was still hungry
These were very sweet plums!

On Thursday, he ate through 4 strawberries but he was still hungry
These are fresh Cameron strawberries, pesticide free from cousin's farm
I think we have about 3-4 kgs of them!
Special picked for big, red, sweet type

On Friday, he ate through 5 oranges but he was still hungry.
These were mandarin oranges.

Now, coming to this chart,
Drew it with sweats and tears!  Pheww!!
Love it very much. It summarizes everything.

Most important element of a birthday.
I know it's easier and nicer to order a cake
Yeah.. adding more love to this party, i baked his first birthday cake.
Simply decorated with fondant caterpillar, M&M chocs and mini flags.
I have no experience and i do not know the choc will bleed after awhile.
They said good choc melts! It was a carrot walnut cake with lemon cheese frosting.

Did these cupcakes too.
Yea. sound kinda crazy right?
I was just happy to do it!
Dark chocolate cupcake with buttercream,
decorated with butterfly figurine using choc melts.
I think i did 40 over numbers a day before the party

Kids would love choc cupcake and this will never go wrong
since carrot walnut cake was the main cake.

As for the party pack, it contained Sun Catcher/DIY Eva Photo Frame /
DIY Eva sunglass & a set of tangram + DIY party hat + a butterfly
face mask. A little special with individual names printed.
Hope the kids will love these handcraft gift.

What about Baby J's outfit??!!
Haha... crazy mummy appliqued 2 strips of ribbon on a new
white romper at the very wee hours.
Sew up a bright yellow pokadot bow tie.
Got him a pair of Pediped shoe as his first walking shoe.

Mummy and handsome little boy!

This was the dessert table on that day itself.
Yea, the banners were DIY too.
Got the caterer to supply the tables and bought a few meters of
theme related cloth as the table cloth.
You can get nice cheap cloth from Kamdar.

All the pre-work came with a lot of hardwork and late nights. I can only do it after Baby J slept at night. Enjoyed the process and feel loved when his daddy put in effort together.

Baby,
When  you read this later, this was how mummy expressed my love to you. I hope this will be a sweet memory for you!

With lots of love,
Mummy
